The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
It’s such a charming book that gives an honest but optimistic appraisal about people and life that it’s impossible not to love it. It uses many of the clichés seen in the romance genre but it’s not overly sappy; there’s an underlying sharpness that prevents the story for being diabetic. I try not to read it too often so I can savour the story each time, and not just skim through it because I already know what’s happened.
Also, the male protagonist, Dawsey Adams, has been the only literary character that I would love to marry in real life; he has all the qualities that I love!
I did a review on it right here if you’re interested.
