Day 08 – Most Overrated Book

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

This is going to be very controversial but I didn’t like Gone Girl. I get why everyone thought it was amazing and I have read (and agree with) all the analytical pieces (see below) on the famous “Cool Girl” quote but I hated the way it was written. I thought it was trying too hard to be clever but I still think it was written cleverly if that makes sense. I’m still a little unsure why I couldn’t finish it.

  1. What a shame! I really liked Gone Girl. It was the first crime thriller I ever read, and I felt hooked. I could work out what was coming however, so when the big reveal that Amy wasn’t actually dead, I didn’t feel surprised. But I still felt drawn in by the way both hers and Nick’s minds worked and the ending still caught me off guard. I suppose everyone has different opinions though, and that’s the beauty of the book blogging community! 🙂
